Praying to the Father: The Power of Jesus’ Name

By Carolyn Bridges

John 16:23 (King James Version)

And in that day ye shall ask me nothing. Verily, verily, I say unto you, Whatsoever ye shall ask the Father in my name, he will give it you.

Jesus spoke these words while He was here on earth.  When He said, “…in that day…” He was talking about the day we live in.  He is telling us how to get results from prayer.

Jesus is the legal entry way to the Father.  We can go to God in no other way.  We cannot get to Him through good works.  We cannot get to Him through being a good person.  We cannot get to Him through Mohammed, Buddha, or Hare Krishna.  The Word of God says that we must go to the Father in JESUS’ NAME, and He will give it to you.

He said, “…whatsoever ye shall ask…”  He didn’t say, “…if it be my will…”  He said to ask so that you can be full of joy.  God wants you to be full of joy and happy.  He wants you satisfied with life and excited to see each new day dawn (Psalm 91:16).

Jesus was instructing the disciples in how to pray once He was gone, because He had not yet shed His blood to seal the New Covenant.  But, thank God, Jesus’ blood has been shed, and He is risen from the dead.  He has sealed the New Covenant in His blood.  His instructions now are to pray to the Father in His Name.  Why?  So “…that your joy may be full.” (verse 24).

Now you are a disciple of Jesus if you accept Him as your Lord.  You can do that now, right where you sit, if you have not accepted Him.  Just say, “Father, in Jesus’ name, I accept Jesus as my Lord and Savior right now.  Thank you for saving me.  Jesus is my Lord.”  And for all who have received Him, that means YOU, He wants you to be full of joy and happiness.

Have a great day in the Lord.
